Posted: 9/20/2006 New Vaccines and Vaccine recommendations There has been a flurry of activity this Spring concerning vaccines- both new offerings as well as new recommendations about existing vaccines. The following is a summary of our office policies on these recommendations. Gardasil: This vaccine is recommended for adolescent females over the age of 9 years. It protects against cervical cancer and should be administered before the patients becomes sexually active. We are routinely offering it at the 11 year well visit. Varicella: A booster dose is now being recommended for the Chicken Pox vaccine. We will be routinely administering this at the 4 year well visit. Children who are older and require a booster will receive it at their next well visit. Adacel: This is the newly formualted "tetanus booster" which now contains protection against pertussis (whooping cough) as well as tetanus and diphtheria. We are routinely administering it during the 11 year well visit.
Posted: 9/19/2006 New Vaccines and Vaccine recommendations - CONTINUED Hepatitis A: This is a vaccine against the oral-fecally spread form of hepatitis. It has been previously given only to patients traveling abroad to areas of the world where Hepatitis A is endemic. The recommendation has been expanded to include all children over the age of 1 year, regardless of travel.
Rotateq: This is a vaccine administered orally to infants in order to protect them against Rotavirus. This virus produces an illness that generally hits during the winter season and can cause significant diarrheal illess with subsequent dehydration especially in young children. If your child is under 3 months of age, they are eligible to receive this vaccine. We routinely start this vaccine at the 2 months well care visit.

4. Tilefish
5. Small and large-mouth bass
6. Walleye
7. Lake trout
8. Northern pike
9. some forms of tuna Fish and shellfish can contribute to heart health and proper growth and development and therefore, are an important part of a healthy diet. They contain high quality proteins and other essential nutrients, are low in saturated fat, and contain omega-3 fatty acids.
